DON'T SHUT DOWN THE TOWER DISTRICT. TAKE CONTROL OVER IT, ADRIAN VIBES HARRIS SPEAKS OUT...

Fresno's Nightlife Violence Requires Experienced Leadership, Not the Elimination of Local Businesses

FRESNO, CALIFORNIA — October 19, 2026

Another weekend. Another shooting. Another conversation about shutting down Fresno's nightlife.

Following the October 18 shooting outside MIA Nightclub in the Tower District, Fresno city officials are once again facing difficult questions about public safety. Councilmember Miguel Arias has publicly raised the possibility of temporarily shutting down nightlife operations in the area. I understand the concerns. Innocent people are being placed in dangerous situations, and something needs to change.

But shutting down an entire entertainment district is not a comprehensive public safety strategy.

As the owner of The Rosé in Downtown Fresno and someone with more than 20 years of experience in nightlife, event production, and entertainment operations, I believe this conversation is missing an important perspective.

Shutting Down Nightlife Doesn't Eliminate Violence

If we shut down the Tower District, where do we think the crowds will go?

People looking for nightlife and entertainment will simply find other places to gather.

The possibility that violence could follow those crowds into other neighborhoods deserves serious consideration. Meanwhile, business owners, bartenders, DJs, servers, security personnel, food vendors, and countless families could lose valuable income. The Tower District isn't just a collection of bars and nightclubs. It's an economic and cultural destination.

We cannot allow the reckless actions of a few individuals to destroy opportunities for an entire community.

The Problem Requires More Than Police Presence

I believe Fresno needs to rethink how we manage high-traffic entertainment districts.

There is a difference between responding to violence and creating an environment designed to prevent it.

After more than two decades in nightlife, I've learned that effective entertainment operations require planning, structure, security coordination, and an understanding of crowd behavior.

Nightlife management is an industry that requires specialized experience.

Just as cities consult engineers about infrastructure and developers about economic growth, they should also consider consulting experienced nightlife operators when addressing entertainment district safety.

There are operational strategies that deserve consideration before we resort to closing businesses.

Those strategies require proper evaluation, coordination with law enforcement, and a realistic understanding of how nightlife actually works. This is not something that should be developed through social media comments or rushed political conversations. It requires experienced professionals sitting at the same table.

Are We Directing Our Attention Toward the Right Problems?

Over the past two weekends, events I've helped organize have faced significant scrutiny from Fresno law enforcement and city authorities. These events were created to bring people together through music, entertainment, and community engagement. I understand the importance of permits, regulations, and public safety requirements. But experiences like these also raise an important question:

Are we applying the same urgency and resources to preventing violent incidents as we are to regulating entertainment events? Public safety should remain the priority everywhere, and responsible operators should be part of the solution rather than automatically viewed as the problem. We need accountability, but we also need collaboration.

Experience Should Have a Seat at the Table

I've spent more than 20 years working in the nightlife and entertainment industry.

I've experienced firsthand the responsibilities of managing venues, organizing events, coordinating security, handling large crowds, and operating businesses in an industry where safety and preparation are essential.

Through my work as an entrepreneur and business consultant, I've learned that identifying a problem is only the beginning.

The real value comes from developing a strategy, implementing that strategy, and measuring whether it works.

Fresno does not have to choose between public safety and a thriving nightlife economy.

Both deserve serious consideration. However, developing a workable nightlife safety model requires professional planning, industry expertise, cooperation from business owners, and coordination with city leadership.

A Call for Professional Collaboration

I welcome an opportunity to work with Fresno city officials, law enforcement leadership, and entertainment district stakeholders to explore practical, sustainable solutions. My experience in venue operations, event management, nightlife consulting, and business development provides a perspective that can contribute to these conversations. Beyond public discussion, I'm available to discuss a formal consulting engagement focused on assessing nightlife operations, identifying security and crowd-management challenges, and developing recommendations tailored to Fresno's entertainment districts.

The specific recommendations, implementation framework, and operational strategies should be developed through a structured professional engagement with the appropriate decision-makers.

My goal is not to criticize the people responsible for protecting our city.

My goal is to help identify solutions that protect lives, preserve businesses, and strengthen our community.

Fresno Deserves a Better Conversation

We cannot continue accepting shootings as a normal part of our city's nightlife.

But we also cannot assume that closing an entire district will solve the underlying problems.

Let's stop asking how we can shut nightlife down and start asking how we can make it safer.

Let's involve experienced professionals, listen to affected residents, support responsible business owners, and establish a serious process for developing long-term solutions. Fresno deserves safe entertainment districts. Our businesses deserve the opportunity to thrive. And our residents deserve to come home safely.

The solution isn't necessarily shutting everything down. It's learning how to manage it better.
